Affinitas Circulus

Finally got my brushes and pens out and created a new cast acrylic monotype. It may be the start of a series of abstract monotypes. (13″x13″ acrylic paint, acrylic ink, and acrylic gloss medium on Somerset Velvet) It was seven layers of painting/printing.

In addition to this, I’ve been working on the first interview for “So What’s On Your Plate?” The actual interview was completed Monday and was done in two stages. First, an email interview with a series of starter questions, and subsequently, a telephone interview with follow-up discussion.

I was able to perform this first 45 minute interview, and record it for the whopping cost of $2.95 US long distance between Alberta and Illinois. All that was needed was my laptop and headset, a subscription to Skype, and a freeware recording application called CallGraph. In future I may be able to podcast the interviews, but frankly, it’s very weird listening to your own voice saying “um, err, ahem, well, …” And it doesn’t help that your partner bursts out laughing at the first sonorous “Hello” of what she calls your “FM voice” So for now, I am publishing in type!

At any rate, the interview simply has to be transcribed, spell checked, “de-ummed”, and linked to follow-up research prior to publishing. So I may as well let the cat out of the bag. The first printmaker interviewed was Erik Waterkotte. He’s young and inspiring, as well as personable and involved in the global community of printmakers. The interview should be published before the end of June as promised!

  1. I see you’ve been busy while I’ve been buried under mounds of HTML coding. Great new print! I like the yellow center — like a distant beam of light.

Also looking forward to the interview and isn’t it funny how different our voices sound when we’re not listening to them inside our own heads?
