It’s ALIIIIIVE!
Well it didn’t take a lightning strike and a bunch of corny movie special effects. I’m amazed at how quickly my first blog came to life!
I just completed a watercolour monotype this weekend. It’s my second exploration of an image that began as a photograph from an outing to Elk Island National Park. I’ve digitally reworked the image into a 7 layer (one layer per colour) image for a linocut reduction print I’m planning to do. So I wanted to try the colours and composition in a less time intensive printmaking medium first. I may do another monotype after altering the composition a bit, with more intense colours.
Not the best photo of it, but it is very high key, so getting a good photo will be tough until I can go outside and photograph it in sunlight.

Nice new blog! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your stuff, and the progression of this image in particular. I’ve added you to my blogroll; hope that’s okay
I figured you might like your first comment to go with your first post. Nice print Rick. Such a very different feel from your proposed reduction yet still captures the spaciousness of your image.
Cheers,
Kat.
Thanks for being the first to comment Kat and Beth! I may be changing the composition quite a bit after a couple of monotypes.
Thanks for blogrolling me Beth!
